MGCB Launches New Campaign Devoted to Problem Gambling Awareness Month

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has announced the launch of a new responsible gambling campaign aimed at offering tips and information to help players avoid the harms caused by problem gambling. The campaign titled Don’t Regret the Bet launched during Problem Gambling Awareness Month to inform gamblers about the risks and offer advice to those who may feel that their gambling habits could be getting out of control.

There are 6 tips offered by MGCB that can help problem gamblers to avoid harm: keeping head on straight, avoiding losses-chasing, considering gambling only as entertainment, sticking to the set limits, keeping gambling and other activities balanced, and being always aware of risks — even when feeling lucky.

Don’t Regret the Bet also directs players towards various resources to get help if they are struggling with gambling, including self-exclusion lists, self-assessments, signs of problem gambling tips, as well as links to Gam-Anon, Gamblers Anonymous, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Don’t Regret the Bet is a multi-media campaign; it will be aired across radio and TV channels, and also online. Digital billboards and point-of-sale video ads at gas stations will also be used for the aims of this campaign.

Henry Williams, Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director, noted that starting in March, Michigan residents would hear and see new public service messages on local TV and radio stations and on popular social media platforms.

Williams added that March was Problem Gambling Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to launch the MGCB’s educational campaign; the yearlong campaign was a crucial step in their ongoing efforts to reach the public with information, tips, and tactics promoting responsible gaming.

King Media (based in Lansing, Michigan) also took part in the campaign. Traditional adverts will also appear during broadcasts of professional and college sports.
