Boyd Gaming Closes $170m Pala Interactive Purchase

The acquisition of Pala Interactive by Boyd Gaming, which was first announced in March 2022, is now closed giving the group the “attractive growth opportunity” in the US. The operator is seen to secure iGaming technology that includes a player management system, social casino, casino and poker platforms as well as integrated sports and a managed services suite.

President and CEO of Boyd Gaming Keith Smith noted that online casino gaming was an attractive growth opportunity for their company, and the acquisition of Pala Interactive provided them with the technology, products and expertise to create a profitable regional online casino business.

Smith also added that they looked forward to working with the Pala Interactive team in executing their online casino gaming strategy, which would complement their existing land-based operations and further expand their nationwide customer base.

Last month in a Q3 earning call Boyd Gaming highlighted an expectation of strengthening “solid nationwide operating results” through “several projects that are beginning to come online”.

The company looked ahead to completing the acquisition of Pala Interactive as, according to Boyd, after achieving this the migration of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey focused Stardust iGaming brands would commence.

At that time Keith Smith said that they believed they had the foundation to successfully build a profitable, regional, online casino operation that leverages their industry-wide experience, their existing geographic availability, and their proven customer database.

Smith also noted then that Pala would provide them with the technology, products and management expertise to execute that strategy; online gaming had become an important part of the growth story for their industry, and they were focused on building a profitable online business that would enhance their existing land-based operations.

In other news, Hard Rock International will start building a permanent casino in Bristol this month.
